Rund um das sogenannte rote Rathaus in Berlin, dem Amtssitz des Regierenden
Bürgermeisters, verläuft ein
Fries, das Szenen aus der Geschichte der Stadt bildlich wiedergibt.
Eine davon stellt unter anderem den Mathematiker
Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz im Zusammenhang mit der Gründung der
Kurfürstlich-Brandenburgischen Societät der Wissenschaften im Jahre 1700 dar,
deren erster Präsident er wurde.

The Rote Rathaus (the main hall) in Berlin is decorated by a
frieze showing scenes from the history of
this city. One of these scenes also shows the mathematician
Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz in relation of the foundation of the academy of science, whose first
president he has been.
