Grabstein von F. R. Helmert /
Gravestone for F. R. Helmert

Geheimer Ober-Regierungsrat
Professor Dr.
Friedrich Robert
Helmert

Direktor des K[öni]gl[ichen] Geodätischen Instituts,

* 31. Juli 1843,
+ 15. Juni 1917.

english The grave of Friedrich Robert Helmert can be found on the old cemetry located in one of the suburbs (Teltower Vorstadt) of Potsdam. At the main entrance at the street named Heinrich-Mann-Allee there is a information board showing an overview of the graves of important peoples. The following text is a translation of what can be read there:

Replica of the gravestone of the geodesist F. R. Helmert (1843 - 1917).
He was founder of the mathematical and physical theories of modern geodesy.

The reasons for the replica can be read in an article written by Hans Weise Helmert's grave and memorial (in German only). The text of the gravestone (cf. the German text above) is not provided in English.

The graveof the mathematician Erhard Schmidt is also located on this cemetery but also the grave of the physicist Kurt Wedel whose gravestone shows the integral formula for the Gamma-function.

The street running along the southern edge of the S-Bahn-station Griebnitzsee is named after F. R. Helmert. A picture of a street-sign is given at the end of this page. Information with respect to the personage are not provided there.

The photograph of the grave-stone was taken in January 2005, the one of the street-sign in September 2007.
