In der Kirche Saint Thomas in Straßburg ist Johann Ludwig Alexander Herrenschneider bestattet. Es ist bekannt, dass er Mathematiker, Astronom sowie Physiker war, meteorologische Messungen durchführte und in Korrespondenz mit Georg Christoph Lichtenberg stand (siehe [1, S. 552]). Die Grabstätte ist mit einer Büste und einer in Latein verfassten Texttafel ausgestaltet. Letztere besitzt - in der Tradition der alten Römer - sehr viele abgekürzte Wörter; ihr Text lässt sich wie folgt interpretieren:

The burial-place ist provided with a bust and a plaque with a Latin text. The latter shows a lot of abbreviations following the tradition of the ancient Romans. The text may be translated as follows:
