Das Familiengrab, in dem auch der Mathematiker und Physiker
Georges
Henri-Joseph-Édouard Lemaître bestattet ist, befindet sich auf dem Friedhof
Marcinelle im Süden von Charleroi. Dort ist es in Reihe 12 der Abteilung 23 zu finden.
Dieser Friedhof ist von der Straße Rue Des Sarts zugänglich. G. É.
Lemaître war auch als Priester und päpstlicher Prälat tätig. Darauf
weist auch der Zusatz Monseigneur (Hochwürden) auf dem Grabstein hin. Seine
erste Dissertation hatte das mathematische Thema L’approximation des fonctions de
plusieurs variables réelles (Approximation von Funktionen mehrerer reeller
Variablen).
G. É. Lemaître ist der Begründer der Urknall-Theorie (siehe auch diesen Artikel bei Wikipedia).

Henri-Joseph-Édouard Lemaître is buried, is located on the cemetery
Marcinelle in the southern part of the city of Charleroi (row 12 of division 23). This
cemetery is accessible from the street Rue Des Sarts. G. É. Lemaître
worked also as priest and prelat, which is recognizable by the title Monseigneur
which is added to his name on the inscription of the gravestone. His first
doctoral thesis treats a mathematical topic and is entitled L’approximation des fonctions
de plusieurs variables réelles (Approximation of functions of several real
variables).
G. É. Lemaître introduced the theory of the Big Bang (cf. also this article of Wikipedia).
