Das Grab des Mathematikers
Stefan
Banach befindet sich auf dem
Lytschakiwski-Friedhof
von Lemberg nahe dem Friedhofseingang. (Im Reiseführer [1]
ist auf Seite 187 die Grablage ersichtlich.) Dabei besitzt S. Banach keine separate
Grabstätte, sondern er wurde im Riedl-Monument bestattet. In
[2, S. 232] findet man einige wenige Angaben zum Verhältnis
von S. Banach zur Familie Riedl.
Die Inschrift auf der linken Seite des Grabmals lautet aus dem Polnischen übersetzt:
| Dr. Stefan Banach Universitätsprofessor * 30.3.1892 in Krakau + 31.8.1945 |
Auffällig ist, dass zwischen den Buchstaben des Titels 'D' und 'R' ein Punkt gesetzt ist; eigentlich kann es sich nur um eine Unkorrektheit handeln.

Banach is located on the
Lychakiv Cemetery
in the city of Lviv. It is not a separate grave but S. Banach is buried in the
Riedl monument which is near the entrance of the cemetery.
[2, p. 232] provides some information on the relation of S. Banach
to the family Riedl.
The Polish inscription on the left hand side of the tomb reads like:
| Dr. Stefan Banach Professor of the university * 30.3.1892 in Kraków + 31.8.1945 |
There is a dot between the two letters 'D' and 'R' of the title. The only reason for this must be a mistake.
