Das oben im Bild wiedergegebene Denkmal stand nordwestlich der Moritzbastei, ganz in der
Nähe des Gewandhauses zu Leipzig und ist dem Mathematiker und Philosophen
Gottfried
Wilhelm Leibniz gewidmet, der hier in Leipzig studierte. Heute - Dezember
2010 - steht das Denkmal wieder in einem Innenhof des Universitätsgeländes
unweit nördlich des Orts, wo es fotografiert wurde.
Auf der Vorderseite ist der Schriftzug "Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz" angeordnet, der allerdings auf dem Bild - weil im Schatten liegend - nicht zu erkennen ist. Die Rückseite enthält den Text "Errichtet im Jahre 1883", während auf der rechten Seite die Angaben zu den beteiligten Künstlern eingraviert sind "Erfunden und modelliert von E. J. Hähnel in Dresden 1881 - 1883" und "In Erz gegossen von Ch. Lenz in Nürnberg 1883".
Die Aufnahme entstand am Himmelfahrtstag 2003. Unten ist eine alte Ansicht von einer Postkarte aus dem Jahr 1908 zu sehen.
The monument shown above was placed in the northwest of the Moritzbastei
close to the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig and is dedicated to the mathematician and
philosopher Gottfried
Wilhelm Leibniz, who studied in Leipzig. Nowadays (December 2010) the monuments is
placed again in a court of the university's campus but not far from the place where the
photograph was taken.
The front contains the name "Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz" while the back shows the text "Erected in the year 1883". The right hand side provides some information about the artists which may translated as follows: "Invented and modelled by E. J. Hähnel in Dresden 1881 - 1883" and "Casted in ore by Ch. Lenz in Nuremberg 1883".
The photograph was taken in May 2003. Below there is an old view of a postcard from the year 1908.
