Nikolaus Kopernikus

deutsch Das Denkmal zeigt den Astronomen Nikolaus Kopernikus. Es steht nahe der Allensteiner Feste, in der zeitweise auch Nikolaus Kopernikus lebte. Der Text auf dem Sockel des Denkmals steht im Zusammenhang mit dem Engagement von Nikolaus Kopernikus mit der Verteidigung der Stadt und kann wie folgt übersetzt werden:

Dem Verteidiger der Stadt Allenstein vor Kreuzrittern,
dem großen Polen - Nikolaus Kopernikus -
von dankbaren Landsmännern

Im Jahr 2003 wurde in Allenstein ein weiteres Denkmal zu N. Kopernikus errichtet.

english The monument shows the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. It is erected close to the Olsztyn Castle, where he lived for some time. The text engraved on the pedestal concerns the engagement of Nicolaus Copernicus for defending the town against attacking forces. It may be translated as follows:

To the defender of the city of Olsztyn against Teutonic Knights,
to the great Pole - Nicolaus Copernicus -
from grateful fellow-countrymen

In 2003 one more monument honouring N. Copernicus was erected.
