Das Denkmal von
Georg
Christoph Lichtenberg
befindet sich an der nordöstlichen Ecke des alten Rathauses von Göttingen.
G. C. Lichtenberg hat - wie dies auch auf der Tafel zum Denkmal ausgewiesen ist -
die Bipolarität nachgewiesen, was durch die Kugel in der linken Hand, auf der die
Vorzeichen + und - zu erkennen sind, symbolisiert wird.

Georg Christoph Lichtenberg (1.7.1742 -
24.2.1799) Experimentalphysiker, Mathematiker, Astronom, geistreicher Satiriker
und scharfsinniger Denker im Zeitalter der Aufklärung. Berühmt
durch seine Aphorismen ("Sudelbücher").
Seine "Vorlesungen zur
Naturlehre" begründeten die physikalische Forschung und Lehre an der
Georg-August-Universität. Mit den "Lichtenbergschen Figuren" wies er die
Bipolarität der Elektrizität nach (+/-).
Man spricht viel von
Aufklärung und wünscht mehr Licht. Mein Gott, was hilft aber alles Licht,
wenn die Leute entweder keine Augen haben oder die, die sie haben, vorsätzlich
verschließen.
Der Mensch kommt unter allen Tieren in der Welt dem Affen am
nächsten.
Zweifle an allem wenigstens einmal, und wäre es auch der

Georg Christoph Lichtenberg (1.7.1742 -
24.2.1799) Experimental physicist, mathematician, astronomer, witty satirist
and perspicacious thinker in the era of the Enlightenment. Distinguished due to
his aphorisms ("Sudelbücher").
His "Lectures on natural science" were
the starting point for physical research and education at the Georg-August
University. By the "Lichtenberg figures" he proved the bipolarity of electricity
(+/-).
One speaks a lot on enlightenment and desires more light. Goodness,
