Denkmal für Nikolaus Kopernikus in Breslau (Polen) /
Monument for Nicolaus Copernicus in Wrocław (Poland)

Das Denkmal, mit dem der Kapitelherr und Astronom Nikolaus Kopernikus geehrt wird, steht auf dem Platz nordwestlich der Brücke, die nach dem Priester Piotr Skargi (most Księdza Piotra Skargi) benannt und über den Stadtgraben führt, im Süden der Altstadt von Breslau. Es ist bis auf den Kopf recht abstrakt gehalten. Vor dem Brustbereich ist das heliozentrische System angedeutet (siehe diesen Artikel in polnischer Sprache).

Das Denkmal wurde von Prof. Leon Podsiadłego (Breslauer Akademie der Bildenden Künste) geschaffen und im Jahre 1974 - ein Jahr nach dem 500. Geburtstag von N. Kopernikus - enthüllt. Die Beziehung zu Breslau ergibt sich daraus, dass N. Kopernikus Kanoniker und Scholastiker in der Kreuzkirche in Breslau war (siehe diese Beschreibung Rund um die Altstadt).

The monument which honours the canon in the Ermland Chapter and astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus is located on the place northwest of the bridge named after the priest Piotr Skargi (most Księdza Piotra Skargi) overpassing the moat in the southern part of the old city of Wloclawek (Wrocław). Except of the head the statue is shaped rather abstract. At the front side of the chest the heliocentric system is sketched (cf. the Polish article).

The monument was created by Prof. Leon Podsiadłego (Wloclawekian Academy of Pictorial Arts) and unveiled in 1974, one year after the 500^th anniversary of birth on N. Copernicus. The relation to the city of Wrocław is given by the fact that N. Copernicus was canon and scholatic in the cathedral school of Wrocław.
