Gedenktafel in Riehen / Plaque in Riehen

deutsch Bald nach der Geburt von Leonhard Euler zog dessen Familie von Basel nach Riehen (heute im Kanton Basel-Stadt). Die Stadt Riehen würdigt diesen großen Mathematiker auf Anregung des Mathematikers und späteren Ständerates Willi Wenk mit dieser Gedenktafel. Das Gebäude in der Kirchstraße 8 - auch genannt das Klösterli, an dem die Tafel 1960 angebracht wurde (siehe rechts), steht unmittelbar neben der Kirche im Ortszentrum. Die Famile Euler bewohnte allerdings das gegenüber liegende Pfarrhaus in der Kirchstraße 7. Die Gedenktafel wurde von Rosa Bratteler (1886 - 1960) geschaffen und enthält den Text:

LEONHARD EULER
1707 - 1783
Mathematiker, Physiker,
Ingenieur, Astronom und
Philosoph verbrachte in
Riehen seine Jugendjahre.
Er war ein großer Gelehrter
und ein gütiger Mensch.

english Soon after the birth of Leonhard Euler his family moved from Basel to Riehen lying close to Basel, nowadays in the canton Basel-Stadt. The city of Riehen honours this great mathematician with the plaque shown above. The house where the plaque was fixed in 1960 and whose address is Kirchstraße 8 is called Klösterli (cloister but in some kind of minimization). It is located next to the church in the center of Riehen. Placing the plaque was suggested by the mathematician Willi Wenk. But it should be mentioned that the family of L. Euler lived in the personage whose address was Kirchstraße 7. The plaque was created by Rosa Bratteler (1886 - 1960).

LEONHARD EULER
1707 - 1783
mathematician, physician
engineer, astronomer, and
philosopher spent his early years
in Riehen. He was a great savant
and a kind-hearted man.
