Descartes. Sie war zum Zeitpunkt der Aufnahme mit unzulänglich entfernten
Aufklebern verunstaltet, jedoch
ist der französische Text vollständig lesbar und
kann wie folgt ins Deutsche übersetzt werden:

Orte1) Hier lebte René Descartes 1596 - 1650 ansässig in den Niederlanden; der französische Philosoph bewohnte dieses Haus bei seinen Pariser Aufenthalten in den Jahren 1644, 1647 und 1648 " Wie ich mit dem einen Fuß in dem einen Land und dem anderen im anderen Land stehe, empfinde ich meine Lage als sehr glücklich, weil sie unbehindert ist " ( aus einem Brief an die Prinzessin Elisabeth von Böhmen, Paris 1648 ) Diese Tafel wurde 1987 angebracht, zum 350. Mit Discours de la Méthode ist abkürzend der Titel von R. Descartes Buch [1] gemeint (vergleiche auch diese Briefmarke).

The house with address 14, rue Rollin possesses the transparent plaque shown at the
top of this page. It commemorates to
René
Descartes. When the photograph was taken it was polluted by insufficiently removed
paste-on labels.
But the French text is completely readable and can be translated to English as follows:

sites1) Here lived René Descartes 1596 - 1650 resident in the Netherlands, the French philosopher occupied this house while staying in Paris in the years 1644, 1647 and 1648 " Staying as I am, one foot in one country and the other in another, I find my condition very happy, in that it is free. " ( from a letter for the Princess Elisabeth of Bohemia, Paris 1648 ) This plaque was attached in 1987, the 350th anniversary of the publication of the 'Discours de la Méthode' |
Discours de la Méthode means the abbreviated title of R. Descarte's book [1] (cf. also this stamp).
