Auf dem Campus der
Universität von Oslo im Ortsteil Blindern
ist - etwas versteckt - im Geviert zwischen dem Sophus-Lie-Auditorium, dem
Niels-Henrik-Abel-Gebäude (Mathematikgebäude) und dem
Vilhelm-Bjerknes-Gebäude das Denkmal für
Niels
Henrik Abel zu finden. Es zeigt den Mathematiker auf einem Stuhl sitzend.
Der Text auf der Vorderseite des Sockels kann wie folgt ins Deutsche übersetzt werden:
Darunter ist noch eine Lemniskate wiedergegeben. Diese Grafik ist auf der Vorderseite der im Jahr 2002 herausgegebenen Gedenkmünze zu finden.
Die Aufnahme am Ende dieser Seite zeigt das durch die drei genannten Gebäude eingefasste Areal, in dem das Sitzbild N. H. Abels zu finden ist. Das flache Gebäude auf der linken Seite ist das Vilhelm-Bjerknes-Gebäude (dort ist in der Eingangshalle eine Büste von Vilhelm Bjerknes aufgestellt), das hohe in der Mitte das Mathematikgebäude und die Glasflächen auf der rechten Seite gehören zum Sophus-Lie-Auditorium (dort befindet sich eine Büste von Sophus Lie).

The photograph below shows the three buildings mentioned above. The monument for N. H. Abel can be found in this area. The building on the left is the Vilhelm Bjerknes building (a bust of Vilhelm Bjerknes can be seen in the entrance lounge), the high one in the center hosts the institute for mathematics and on the right the windows of the Sophus Lie auditorium (a bust of Sophus Lie is there at the ground-floor) can be recognized.
