Gravestone for Otto August Rosenberger in Halle (Germany)

Vom Grab von Otto August Rosenberger auf dem Friedhof der St.-Laurentius-Gemeinde in Halle ist einzig der Grabstein übrig geblieben. Man findet ihn an der südlichen Begrenzungsmauer unmittelbar hinter dem größten dort wachsenden Baum und neben einer Bank. Seine Inschrift ist nur noch schwer zu lesen und lautet:

Otto August Rosenberger Professor der Astronomie u[nd] Mathematik a[n] d[er] Universität Halle * zu Tuckum in Kurland 10. Aug[ust] 1800 + zu Halle 23. Januar 1890 Träufte uns von Segen dieser Mann Wie ein milder Stern aus bessern Welten und wir können nicht vergelten, was er uns getan

Auf diesem Friedhof ist auch das Grab von August Gutzmer zu finden.

The burial-place of Otto August Rosenberger on the cemetery of the St. Laurentius parish is not longer existing. Only the gravestone can be found at the wall of the southern border immediately behind the largest tree and beside a bench. Its inscription is hard to recognize, it reads like:

Otto August Rosenberger Professor for astronomy and mathematics at the University of Halle * in Tukums in Courland on August 10th, 1800 + in Halle on January 23rd, 1890 Dripped this man with blessing us like from a better world a gentle star and we're unable to reward, the things that he has done for us

In German the second part of the inscription is a poem. It's a mere accident that this remains true for the English translation too.

The grave of August Gutzmer is still existing on the same cemetery.
