Die Büste von
Adam Ries
und die Gedenktafel darunter (siehe links) sind am sogenannten Haus "Zum schwarzen Horn"
(heute Michaelisstraße 48) in Erfurt angebracht. Letzere enthält folgenden Text:
Druckereiwerkstatt von Wolfgang Schenck (seit 1499) Mathis Maler (bis 1536) Schriften und Adam Rieses Rechenbücher gedruckt |
Der Text der Tafel unterhalb der Büste lautet:
Von 1513 - 152/23 in Erfurt. Sein ältestes Rechenbuch "Rechnung auff der Linihen" wurde hier 1518 gedruckt. |
Diese Tafel zeigt auch ein Emblem, das die Initialen von Adam Ries und ein Symbol enthält und das in Bezug auf ihn gerne verwendet wird.
Was mit dem Titel "Rechnen auff der Linihen" gemeint ist, kann auf der zwischen den Pflastersteinen vor dem Haus eingelassenen Tafel (siehe unten) nachvollzogen werden. Auf ihr ist die Struktur eines Rechenbretts zu erkennen, die Lage der Steine repräsentiert die Zahl 1992. Ganz unten auf dieser Seite gewinnt man einen Gesamteindruck des Ensembles. Büste und beide Tafeln sind gut zu erkennen.

The bust of
Adam Ries together with the plaque are placed at the front of so house called "Zum schwarzen Horn"
("to the black horn" nowadays Michaelisstraße 48) in the city of
Erfurt. The following translation of the contents
of the table above will show the reason.

The contents of the plaque below the bust can be translated as follows:
[lived] from 1513 - 1522/23 in Erfurt. His first book on arithmetics "Rechnung auff der Linihen" has been printed here in 1518. |
The latter also shows an emblem which contains the initial letters of Adam Ries' name together with a symbol commonly used in relation with him.
Was is meant with the title of the book of A. Ries "Rechnen auff den Linihen" (calculating on lines) can be expected when looking on the table shown below. It is placed on the ground and contains the structure of an arithmetic table. The arrangement of the chips represents the number 1992 where the 500th anniversary of Adam Ries occured. At the end of this page a picture of the front of the house "Zum schwarzen Horn" is shown which gives an impression of the items described.
