Im Park vor dem Königlichen Schloss in Oslo ist ein Denkmal für Niels Henrik Abel errichtet worden. Die Skulptur zeigt keinen Bezug zu dem Mathematiker. Auf dem etwa acht Meter hohen Sockel ist lediglich der Name "Abel" zu lesen und auf einer kleinen Plakette der Text (hier ins Deutsche übersetzt):

Vom Künstler G. Vigeland ist in Oslo ein ganzer Park mit Skulpturen gestaltet worden. Ein Charakteristikum ist, dass alle darstellte Personen unbekleidet sind; damit soll vermieden sein, dass sie einer bestimmten Epoche zugeordnet werden können. Daneben ist in der Straße Nobels gate Nr. 32 das Vigeland-Museum (Vigeland museet) beheimatet, in dem Modelle des Künstlers ausgestellt sind. Dort begegnet man auch den Modellen / Studien zu diesem Denkmal. In the Royal Park in front of the castle a monument was erected commemorating to Niels Henrik Abel. The sculpture itself is without any relation to the mathematician.

The only text on the high base is the name "Abel". A small tablet shows the text (now translated to English):

In Oslo there is a park equipped with a lot sculptures by the artist G. Vigeland. The reason why all the human sculptures are nudes is that the figures should not be associated with a specific era. Nearby in the street named Nobels gate nr.32 there is the Vigeland Museum (Vigeland museet) which exhibits models of G. Vigeland.
